Hi, I'm Annabella
Currently, I am a Software Engineer at Effica Health.
I graduated from the University of Toronto with a HBSc specializing in both Computer Science (CS), and Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (BCB).
Work Experience
A brief description of my work experience.
Software Engineer - AI & Scientific Computing
March 2026 -
Present
Working at the intersection of Software Engineering, AI, and Bio-Computational Science to build software which helps mid-life women take agency of their health.
Full Stack Developer
August 2025 -
March 2026
Extended a ComfyUI workflow to build and integrate a backend infrastructure for image generation. The architecture included load balancing, automating spin-up/spin-down of expensive GPU's for intense workflows, and an authentication framework to an external website endpoint I designed.

Machine Learning Engineer
March 2025 -
March 2026
Designed a deep learning model to develop protein architecture and sequence design, producing candidates with desired qualities. Integrated diffusion generative models, neural networks, and LoRAs to create a pipeline with customized training integrating both unsupervised and supervised (reinforcement) learning.

Full Stack Developer
May 2022 -
February 2025
Built and maintained the 3D-facial surgery simulation backend, frontend, and database. Designed and built the corporate website. Solved problems vital to the software. Built infrastructure-as-code using agile methodologies and scrums to design production-level software. Worked full-time for a 16 month professional experience year, and was rehired part-time for the remainder of undergraduate degree.

ISLES'24: Final Infarct Prediction with Multimodal Imaging and Clinical Data: Where Do We Stand?
July 7, 2025
My deep learning model was adapted and submitted to the Ischemic Stroke Lesion Segmentation Challenge (ISLES) 2024 out of the Medical Image Processing and Machine Learning Lab at the University of Calgary. Teams were challenged to estimate brain infarction volumes from pre-interventional acute stroke imaging and clinical data.

A Multi-modal Deep Learning Framework for Final Infarct Prediction in Acute Ischemic Stroke: Combining CTA, NCCT, and Clinical Data.
February 5, 2025
Built a convolutional neural network classifier using CTA, NCCT, and clinical data to predict functional outcomes (via modified Rankin Scale 90-day post-treatment) of Acute Ischemic Stroke at the Medical Image Processing and Machine Learning Lab at the University of Calgary. A post-doctoral researcher built on and published a paper on my work.

Personal Projects
A brief outline of projects I have worked on.
foldSeekR
June 17, 2025
An R package for facilitating programmatic protein structure predictions via Google Deepmind's AlphaFold and architecture similarity comparisons via Steinegger Lab's FoldSeek. I designed this package for a bioinformatics course to extend my foundation of knowledge for peptide design in preparation for my position at BioMimir as Machine Learning Engineer.

WatchCov
March 14, 2021
A tool which provides visualization of the distribution of COVID-19 cases in Canada over time. WatchCov allows users to filter COVID-19 data by any combination of age range, gender, case report date interval, method of exposure, and case status providing useful visuals to represent the aggregation of public health data across provinces.
